Were NAS XJ12's Fitted with LSDs?
Hello,
I need to replace a leaky pinion seal in my 1996 XJ12, and I was wondering if US-Spec XJ12's were fitted with Limited Slip Differentials. That will let me know if I need to make any special considerations as far as gear oil and additives as I want to make sure the diff is topped up before I can get the work done.
I wasn't sure if LSDs were omitted if the car has traction control fitted.
Thanks,
Nick

I think that all XJ12 and XJR sedans up to 1997 were fitted with limited slip diffs.
There should be a tag with red/yellow stripes and a BLACK line or X through it.
The red/yellow is the ratio and black line is LIMITED SLIP.
It is on the diff but might be worn or fell off.
It also might be covered with grease or dirt.

I can't find my brochures and other info since the last time such questions came up so I've been reluctant to answer. I'm 98% sure that LSD was not offered on USA V12 X300s. That last 2% can trip a guy up, though !

Thanks for all the help, and that snippet of the brochure (I'd like to find one one of these days)

How about model year 1997?
While traction control is not an option on your sheets for the regular XJ6 4.0 in 95 and 96, it most certainly was for 1997 as mine has it.
The LSD possibility will be checked next week per Plums and Motorcarman suggestions on how to identify when I get the 60k mile service done.
