Default What's up with this XJR ?

Anyone see the 1997 XJR on ebay this week with real low miles?

Has the S/C engine, the badging, the right wheels... However it does not
have the XJR steering wheel, nor the dark wood on the interior.. nor the body color grill?

I thought all XJR's had those things?

Item number 191372933428

Those sort of XJR oddities were hashed out at great length a year or so ago. Very interesting.

In a very brief butshell some of the later cars lacked the XJR specific grille and steering wheel. I'm pretty sure someone was able to narrow this down fairly closely.

The light wood/dark wood thing and dashboard and door panel color differences were dependent on trim selection....with the lighter choice ('oatmeal' or whatever it was called) getting the light wood, etc.

Cheers
DD

Thank you both! This answers my question about putting in the XJR grill when your grill surround is already chromed. It looks great. Also, I have to get that wood steering wheel as I really miss that from my 2002 XKR since those thickened sections at 10 and 2 were perfect...

What a beautiful XJR, mine has the same style steering wheel and lighter wood trim and carpet/leather. Even at that price, not a bad price for one in that condition.

Cool.. thank you. Had not considered the real light interior and how the wood trim might be different to match better.

For those who don't want to search the item number, here's the car in question..

I love the interior.. just beautiful.

My car is sorta sinister..all dark inside and out.
This one is all class... but with a sinister secret under the hood.

Lightbulb Yes, the XJR could be had with the dark or 'standard' light interior

I thought I initially liked the "standard" (burl walnut) light interior on the XJR, but over time the dark XJR interior grew on me. But they both are great, and this car looks fantastic. I've been keeping an eye on it for the last (couple?) months it has been on eBay.

IMHO, at almost $12k asking price it is about $3-4k ... maybe $5k too high, but the market will decide

It is definitely a nice looking and apparently well maintained example. As time passes, those will become rarer and rarer.

I've already just turned over to 50k miles on mine after picking it up this summer with about 42k. I love driving it, but hate to pile on the miles. It is the curse of a car lover

Regarding your question about interiors, here is my treatise on the subject. I wouldn't consider myself an expert or authoritative, but I gathered the information in the following thread from North American sales brochures for 1995-1997:
