Default Wheel swap from XJ8 to XJ6

Hi everyone

I just picked up a 1996 XJ6 and an XJ8.

The X300, 96 I’m keeping and the XJ8 is my parts car.

I have to use the wheels from the XJ8 because the guy I bought the cars off of wants the wire wheels back.

Long story short the XJ8 wheels are not fitting over the dust cover for the bearings on the XJ6. Not allowing the wheel to fit flat to the hub and the wheel centers definitely won’t work. The XJ8 has the unit bearing setup and has no dust/grease cap.

Has anyone run into this issue and are you running spacers or adapters to make it work.

If so what thickness are you running ?

Thanks for any info, Duane

Front wheel are what I’ll be using

Gold car is the 99’ XJ8

Wheel Spacers, 1996 Advice Needed

Looks like those XJ8 wheels are already mounted to the XJ6 front hubs??

Keep the wire wheels!

I ran into the exact same problem. The wheel bearing dust covers on the X300 can be .....ahem....massaged with a hammer and blunt tool so as to accommodate the X308 wheels

Cheers

Default Wheel center

Doug were you able to use the wheel center on the wheels after “finessing” the grade/dust cap ?
Thanks, Duane

i used xjr 18" wheels from a 2001 on my 96 VDP. You don't need a hammer, just put them on the front. Start the lug nuts and tighten down evenly.
This will crimp the cap never to be a issue again

Ahhhh! A pressure adjustment as opposed to an impact adjustment. Got it

And for future reference for others who may read this thread, if you get hold of XJ8 wheels that have a hub cap rather than a centre cap then no "adjustment" at all is required. Like these
