Default Wire Wheels???

I know they are not common, yet I see them somewhat frequently on jaguars of really any year. Does anyone know the story behind why soo many jaguars got upgraded to them at some point. I would also LOVE to pick up a set for my 97 VDP. Here are some pictures of a VDP that was on ebay a few months back with the wheels that I am talking about.

I am not keen on the wire wheels they remind me of 1930's cars . Besides that the best looking wheels on the X300s are 1995-97 Daimler / VDP wheels (what I do have on my '93) . I have also seen some like XJS wheels on XJ12s or Daimler Double Six at numerous times .

Actually yours is the first modern-ish Jag I've seen with wires. Fairly common on older XJ6s and XJSs, though.

Part of it, I think, is a notion that English cars and wire wheels just naturally go together. I've never seen a Mercedes, BMW, Lexus, or Volvo with wire wheels :-).

As for looks, well, it's all a matter of personal taste, naturally.

Cheers

Never seen a modern Jag with wires. Be interesting to know what rubber it was wearing.

If I were you I would maybe look at a decent set of alloys rather than wires.

Personally I am not keen, the 2 different era's don't mix well. IMHO

And as for wind noise, cleaning, polishing, balancing, spoke/rim maintenance....

All the best,

I just bought my x300 97 and it has Wire Wheels. I am actually looking for the best products to clean them.

I kinda like my 100 spoke Daytons. But they are a nightmare to keep clean.

These are my second favorite and are much easier to keep clean.

I have Daytona 60 spoke wires with the "three bar centers" on my 91 XJ-S . They've been on the car since 1997 & yes there heavy & a bitch to clean. Never had any wheel problems even doing hole shots & banging shifts drag racing, ( Tremec 5 speed) even though I have heard of people having wire wheel problems with the 60 spoke . They do draw attention & I love them on the XJS . Would I put them on my 95 VDP ? No their 15", the 95 are 16". But, if I were to get wires I'd only use with three bar centers, not a big fan of the hex center. Just me!!!
