X300 Chasseur Stealth
Hi I’ve just purchased a 1996 Jaguar xj40 stealth, any information on this car would be really appreciated, it’s a 4 litre twin turbo manual that needs a little work but plenty of history so hopefully a good car.
Hi Geoffh,
Welcome to the Jaguar Forums! It's great to have you with us!
As I understand it, the Stealth package was an aftermarket modification by Chasseur that included the twin turbochargers. Some cars received additional mods such as a body kit (front air dam/bumper cover, rear bumper cover, rocker panel covers), wheels, etc. I doubt many were made but I don't know actual numbers.
I would be curious to know the last six digits of your VIN, which will tell us the actual model year of your car. Jaguar introduced the X300 as a 1995 model, so presumably your car was manufactured in 1994 or earlier, then modified in 1996.
We would sure love to see some photos of your unicorn!
Cheers,
Don

Hi Don, I collect the car tomorrow so I’ll put some pictures up if I can, I think it was owned by the boss at paramount performance, it’s a manual which I’m told makes it ever rarer?? It’s badged as a stealth and has a 375 badge on the tailgate so should be a nice drive, it’s got the twin turbo 4 litre engine with the extra fuel rail for pouring the petrol in.
I’ll post more tomorrow

Wow that would be an absolute rocket...manual as well you would have to hold on for grim death if you planted the foot. Should have the sports shocks package and not sure what other improvements were made but brakes surely must have been given a going over.
Add me to the list of folks here who are /very/ curious about this car. As an American, luxury cars with manual transmissions are exceedingly rare. A twin turbo, manual, Jag, is a fascinating thing indeed. I will be following this with great interest.
So I tried to post some photos last night but as yet they haven’t appeared, I think they need checking first? Is this correct?

For some reason the photos posted but required moderator approval. I did not see anything out of the ordinary so approved the post
Hi Graham, thanks for the information, which forum should I be on? I’m new to the jag scene and have limited information as I’ve tried to research what model it is but not having much success, the logbook states it as a xj6 sport? Apparently it was owned by the chairman of paramount performance who had all the work carried out on it back in the day.
Geoff,
The confusing history of the XJ badge.
Jaguar began this in 1968 with the XJ6 Series One and have confusingly used the same appellation on Series Two and Series Three followed the 1986-94 XJ6 (more often called XJ40 by dealers and owners), superseded by the 1995-97 XJ6 (the X300) which in turn was superseded by the 1997-2003 XJ8 followed by the 2003-09 XJ (the X350) and currently the 2009 onwards XJ.
Yours is a performance development of the X300 although quite correctly badged as XJ6.

Geoff,
I have moved your thread from the forum for the XJ40 to the forum for the X300, which is the Jaguar factory project code for your 1996 XJ6.
Thank you for posting the photos. I LOVE that color. But what I'm really dying to see is the engine bay!
Cheers,
Don

Ok, wow, I didn't think these actually existed, I was pretty sure the only Chasseur was that 001 Tornado. Well done on finding it, its rare as rocking horse ****, even in the XJ40 range. Definitely a very special car. I've seen what the XJ40 Chasseur can do, its insane fun for sure
Geoff,
Thanks for the photo of those turbos!
If the 375 on the boot badge refers to horsepower, it's even more potent than the supercharged XJR6, but with a different power curve and perhaps some turbo lag. But when those turbos kick in that is going to put a huge smile on your face! And imagine the responsiveness with a manual gearbox! I'm really jealous!
Cheers,
Don

Chasseur were eventually bought out by Paramount Performance, I remember when I first spoke with the original owner, his name was Chas Whittaker I think , it was on the Earls Court motorshow stand and they had a lovely dark red xj40 on their stand. The silver car picture shown above was on my kitchen wall for some years. The original xj40 models had 16" Fondmetal wheels and looked lovely.
