X300 Garage Door Opener Programming
Had to deal with this a week or so ago, couldn't get my rolling code opener working. Realized I had to program it with the actual remote first, THEN press the learn button on opener and program the same button in the car again.
For a little light reading, here's the procedure:
PROGRAMMING ROLLING CODE GARAGE DOOR OPENER TRANSMITTER
1. Switch off the engine.
2. Decide which of the four channels you wish to train.
3. Hold the end of your hand-held transmitter against the roof console just forward of the courtesy light and map lights.
4. Using both hands, press both the hand-held transmitter button and the selected channel button on the roof console. DO NOT RELEASE EITHER
button until step 5 has been carried out.
5. Hold down both buttons until you see the yellow light marked "GARAGE" on the roof console flash slowly at first, then rapidly. This could take
up to one minute, or more. Release both buttons when the yellow light flashes rapidly. This rapid flashing indicates that the GDO transmitter has
been successfully programmed to match your hand-held transmitter.
The old hand-held transmitter can now be set aside and the roof console button used in future.
Program the other channels, as required, using hand-held transmitters previously used for other electronic services.
PROGRAMMING ROLLING CODE GARAGE DOOR OPENER RECEIVER
If you have successfully programmed the GDO but the garage door will not open, the customer may need to program the GDO receiver.
To program the GDO receiver to operate from the GDO transmitter, follow the steps below:
1. Follow the previous steps 1 to 5 to program one of the roof console buttons.
2. Remove the cover panel from the GDO receiver. The receiver should be located near to the GDO motor.
3. Locate the training button on the GDO receiver. The exact location and color of the button may vary by GDO brand. Refer to the GDO owners
manual if necessary.
4. Press the training button on the GDO receiver for 1 to 2 seconds.
5. Return to the vehicle and press the programmed button on the roof console for the duration of the rapid flash of the yellow light (1 to 2 seconds).
Release the button and then re-press to confirm that the transmitter has been trained to the receiver.
The GDO receiver should now recognize the GDO transmitter.
OPERATING THE GDO
To operate:
Simply press the appropriate button on the roof console. The yellow light marked "GARAGE" on the roof console comes on when the signal is being
transmitted.
Note: The effective range of the GDO transmitter may differ from your old hand-held transmitter.
TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING TROUBLE-SHOOTING
If the GDO transmitter does not program to your hand-held transmitter, re-read the instructions carefully and repeat the steps. It still unsuccessful, read
the following important details:
^ Check that the batteries in the hand-held transmitter are not dead.
^ Hold the hand-held transmitter in the precise position shown in the illustration.
^ Press and hold the two buttons without interruption, for the duration of the programming.
^ Turn the hand-held transmitter round and re-program using the opposite end. For the best results use the opposite end to the battery compartment
when programming.
ERASING PREVIOUSLY PROGRAMMED FREQUENCIES
Press and hold buttons 1 and 4 until the yellow light marked "GARAGE" begins to flash. This will erase all four channels. Individual channels cannot
be erased, but can be re-programmed at any time by conducting the programming procedures over again.
Hope this helps someone out

It won't help if you are trying to programme a rolling code door with a non-rolling code GDO in an older car.
Press the GDO button and if the flashing light is RED then it is an older Non-Rolling code GDO. If the flashing light is AMBER then it is.
The updated GDO module used to be available but it may be NLA.
Here are some old TSBs for reference.

Switching a later model overhead console (I tried an x308) isn't the answer, either. The interior lights work just the opposite as you'd expect, but the GDO works...
You can't switch out the GDO module because the ribbon cables are different.

Man a 10 year old thread. Anyways so I have a 1998+ transmitter that I found for my car. I know it is the correct version because of the part number and also it has the home link sticker on the transmitter. So I follow the instructions and 50% of the time I get it to go solid. However when I press the button it does nothing. I know it works because it is a newer garage door opener and it has myQ. I also had it working on big red. I have tried two separate modules and the do the same. Sometime I get it to recognize the code and I let go of the button and press it again starts rapids blinking. But sometimes if I get it programmed correctly and again will go solid but does not do anything
It is possible depending on the year of your GDO that the security protocols are still too new. I had to use a HomeLink Repeater Kit on mine (little box, plugs into wall). It sort of acts as a translator between the different signal protocols since our cars are old tech. My P38 Range Rover and XJR will now work using their buttons (I did the X308 roof console mod on my XJR last year).
I recently learned that one Repeater Kit will service multiple garage doors. My house has two “singles”. A little finicky to program, but it does work for me at least. Both of my GDOs are 2016 or newer and have the later security protocols.
might be something to look into and consider.
