Default X300 mileage?

Is it to much 150k miles too much for a X300?

I'm looking for one of these cars and have ben offered one with close to 150k miles on it. The cat is a very good looking one owner car with all the service records up to ten years ago. Ever since the car has been garaged and has only done some 10.000 miles.
Its a 4.0 sovereign with a very nice and tidy interior. Everything seems to be working fine including a/c and electronic seats.

I might swap it for my very clean 1973 superbeetle. What you reckon, should I go for it or not?

150k miles or km?
Mine is 193.000 km and running very strong. General consensus is that these cars can do plenty of km, but it mostly depends on the care given by the previous owner.
Good luck.
Regards,
Jorge

150.000 miles or roughly 240.000 km.
The car has been very well kept until 2005 but little used ever since.
Un saludo jorge

These cars are pretty much bulletproof, and in our countries the rust factor is not a problem.

Mine is 240k km and just a bit used in the interior and some oil leaking in the camshaft cover , but pulls fine and drives great.

Cheap parts on ebay btw

Hola,
If the expected use is not too intensive, condition good and price fair, I would not be scared of the 240 kkm. Other more experienced members may have a different view, though.
Saludos,
Jorge

I'm no expert but I'd generally agree with all the comments. There are plenty of X300's around the world with very high mileage and still going strong because of good maintenance.

My only other observation would be the possibility of various seals (engine, rear axle, trans etc.) and hoses being hardened or perished with so little use over the last 10 years.

I bought my X300 with full service history and a mere 100k miles (165.000 km) not long ago... Rustfree from East Germany... I've bought cars with more than 500k km before and had no issues... But then again, they were rustproof Volvos

Mine has 168,000 miles and runs like a watch. I'm sure it will last many, many more thousands of miles. IMHO that makes it a very 'durable' car.

Of course.....

"Durable" , however, should not be confused with being "trouble free". Two different things . Nor confused with "reliable"...so make it three different things !

Mine has proven to be durable (has a long service life) and reliable (never leaves me stranded by the roadside) ..... but far from trouble free (the list of repairs over the years is quite long)

Cheers
DD

One owner, pampered car and always maintained at the official jaguar service.
Sadly the owner got ill and passed away some years ago so the car has been in the garage most of the time over the last 8 years.

The car starts on the button, runs nice and smooth and looks very good including all hoses and bits on the engine bay, but I am a bit wary about the lack of recent use and its possible ill effects on the car.

What should i do gentlemen?

Looks nice. Looks like it is a VDP or Sov, didn't they normally come with the wood wheel, or was that an option? Not a big deal, just curious.

Do you have the option to take it to a Jag specialist to get a pre-purchase inspection?

.

Interestingly, I recently read that the '97 build Sovereign was intended to have a half wood/leather wheel as standard, but apparently never came to pass. Obviously it wasn't standard on earlier year Sovereigns either. Clasico said this car is a Sovereign, so the wheel shown would most likely be standard, even though we don't know what build year the car is.

It's a 94 4.0 european sovereign. One of the early ones w'out the cubby hole in front of he passenger. The steering wheel seems to be standard.
Regarding jag specialist preinspection, is a good idea. I guess i'll have to go with a mech where the car is and check it out w'out a ramp or a lift.

My 95 x300 is very much the same story. First owner was a lease in Washington dc. Then to Tennessee, 104000 miles and its 2001. Parked till I found it, in a garage covered with trash and boxes. A little more than 3 k invested been driving every day for almost two years, like has been said before almost bullet proof.
She is fun to drive, fast when I want it to be, and gets plenty of looks, must be the leaping cat on the hood. I have been asked if anyone has ever ridden in this car?
Any chance you can keep the big and get the cat? Good luck

Looks really clean, mine with the same mileage has a bit worn interiors, my steering wheel is the same but with 150k miles is very worn and dark grey all around, the seats are also cracked and the driver seatbelt buckle needs to be replaced

So it looks to me yours is almost new

I just sold my 1997 XJ6L that ran fine and had 192,000 MILES on the odo.
Many of my customers have 240,000 miles or more and are still enjoying the cars.
