X300 remote fob programming
I have read various articles on this subject and I am confused. My car is a 96 4.0l sovereign. I wanted to program another fob so I did the following sequence,
Press dashboard boot open switch.
Insert key and turn to the ignition lights on position.
Press the valet button 5 times.
Press the lock button on the fob.
Test fob but no result.
I tried it with the working fob and now that doesn't work!
Wits end, please help. It would also help if any answers avoid abbreviations since I can never figure them out. Thanks for looking.

Hi,
I have used the steps below to program my 2 key fobs. It seems you’re not getting past step 4 where you press the lock button on the key fob.
The process works if everything else is working and connected ok, so there could be a problem with the fob itself or the security module.
my first thoughts would be to check the fob batteries are healthy and then maybe look at resetting the security system, which could be a case of leaving the battery disconnected for an hour or 2 or disconnecting the battery terminals and clamping them together (30m should do it).
I hope this helps.
1. Open the trunk lid and driver's door.
2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON or II position
3. Rock the valet switch located in the center console storage compartment 5 times. A
single confirmation chirp and flash of the
headlamps indicate that the Security Locking Control Module (SLCM) has entered the
learning mode.
Note: If difficulty is experienced entering the learning mode, check that the valet switch is
functioning properly by removing it and checking
continuity.
4. Press the arm/lock (larger) button of the first transmitter. This transmitter will be linked
to position 1 of the seat/column/mirror memory. A tone
will confirm that the transmitter code was accepted. If no transmitter buttons are pushed,
the SLCM will also time out after 15 seconds of
inactivity, indicated by two chirps.
5. Rock the valet switch once. Two short chirps will signal that the system is prepared to
accept the second transmitter.
6. Press the arm/lock button of the second transmitter. This transmitter will be linked to the
position 2 of the seat/column/mirror memory. A tone
will confirm that the transmitter code was accepted.
7. Rock the valet switch once. Three short chirps will signal that the system is prepared to
accept the third transmitter.
8. Press the arm/lock button of the third transmitter. A tone will confirm that the
transmitter code was accepted. This transmitter and any others will
not be linked to a position in the seat/column/mirror memory.
9. The process of pressing the valet switch and waiting for the number of chirps equivalent
to the transmitter number can be repeated for a fourth
and fifth transmitter. The valet switch can be pressed to cycle through the unneeded
transmitter programming sequences. The SLCM will also
time out after 15 seconds of inactivity, indicated by two chirps. This will save the
transmitter codes entered up to this point.
10. Turn the ignition switch off, remove the key, and close the doors and trunk lid.
11. Check for proper system operation including the recall of seat, steering wheel and
mirror memory positions 1 and 2 from the handset transmitter

Thank you for response. I'm not getting a chirp when I press the valet button so I will check that first. When I went through the process with the fob that did work, it somehow removed it from the memory so now I have no working fobs.
The FOBs come in 2 frequencies ( for the X300 production years ) with them stamped on the Fob battery cover , 315 and 433 and there was a mix on antenna lengths that is critical for FOB reception
Some from reading don't have the battery cover marked so the circuit board inside is labeled
The cheap batteries can give you problems
Some have put the batteries in backwards
You can " Hard Reset " the Security Lock Control Module back to square one , zero state , this involves more that removing the battery positive cable
There are new button switches and button covers available on Ebay if it gets to that
A fully functioning FOB with the chirps can be seen midway through this video
