X300 Removing cigarette holder

X300 Removing cigarette lighter holder
I'm trying to remove the cigarette lighter holder from my X300. My model only has one, in front of the centre console under the sliding cover. An easy enough task I thought, just disconnect the wires and pull it out. But not so simple!
Attached to the side of the holder is a bulb and plastic holder which looks like it is just clipped to the side. I've tried to ease it off with a screw driver and also to pull it off upwards (from the underside!), but it won't move, despite WD40. I'm frightened of breaking it and also the green surround which illuminates when the car lights are on, but will do it if it's the only way of getting the holder out of the hole.
Before I take such action though, anyone know how the bulb assembly is removed so I can pull out the holder?
Hope this makes sense!
Thanks.

When I read the title I thought your car might have actually had some kind of holder for Cigarettes. I see now that you are referencing the LIGHTER.
Yes you need to push the center section out of the green lighting ring and then remove the ring. It is plastic, and if it is old and brittle, it will break. If you warm the plastic, it might be more pliable.

The GREEN lighting ring has locking ridges that can be pried up and the metal section pushed free. Several small blunt 'prybars' (pocket screwdrivers?) can be used to free the electrical component from the bulb holder/light ring.
The bulb holder is 'clipped/snapped to the side with the copper strip acting as the earth for the bulb. You need to gently remove the bulb holder by prying.
I THINK the green lighting ring is/was available as a separate part but I might be wrong.
I do remember replacing a bunch when I replaced the ashtrays in many Jaguars. Some of the ashtrays did NOT come with the cigar lighter so transfer of the old one was necessary.
