Default Have you experienced heavy knock sound from front suspension?

Original RH damper with buffer missing (disintegrated)

Original LH damper with buffer missing (disintegrated)

Original damper with buffer missing and replacement damper with yellow buffer clearly visible

Replacement damper installed on RH side

If you have experienced a heavy knocking sound coming from the front of your X300 when driving over uneven surfaces , it could be due to disintegration of the microvon buffers that are meant to isolate the top of the front damper stud from the inner wing through which it passes. Attached are some photos showing that the buffers on the damper side of the inner wing had completely disintegrated on my car. I chose to upgrade the whole dampers to German spec, but could have just replaced the buffers. It has cured the heavy knock sound, caused bye the top of the damper impacting the underside of the inner wing.

I hope that someone else may find this experience helpful.

So, are you saying you replaced 8,9,10 and 11 in the image below?

When you say you "chose to upgrade the whole dampers to German spec" could you clarify this please? I didn't know there were different specs availabe.

He is referring to the German "yellows" dampers.

German yellows : MNA2140BA
These supposed to be a bit "firmer" then green ones

Green ones : MNA2140AC for sport/XJR

Black/blue for sport : MMD2140CC

Black normal comfort : MMD2140AC

I had similar knock but not as extreme - just worn yellow bushes. Shocks OK. These bushes were replaced, and worn front wheel bearings and worn axle spindles also replaced , for a much firmer quieter front end..
