I just got a 95 xj6. My first jag. Anyway it won't start and I bought it that way. I charged the battery and the dash lights up but will not start or even make a soliniod noise. The guy I bought it from said it needed a starter. The car has 113 k on it. I would think a starter would last longer. I was trying to take the starter out (it is a straight 6) naturally the bottom bolt came out no problem. The top bolt is what I need help with. It looks like it goes in a different direction (top of bell housing)than the bottom bolt. I can see it but I can't get to it do I need to take anything off? What I am going to do is make a longer 13 mm box end (cut and weld)wrench and get it that way. Am I right in thinking that way or what. This car has some more issues but what the heck once I get it started it will be morefun.Glad to have found this forum.Any help will be deeply apreciated. Thanks Rick

 

If you lower the tail end of the transmition it usually gives you enough room to get that bolt out.

 

It is very odd for those starters to fail. Bench test it before buying another unit.

 

it is rare but i have done about 5 or 6 .. that bolt can be seized sometimes.. at least up here in canada
