Default XJR Sluggish when pulling off

I've been driving my XJR for a month or so now and can't help thinking its not pulling off as it should. I know when starting in D it pulls off in 2nd gear but even in Sport mode it doesn't exactly fly!

One of my 'to do' jobs is to change the autobox fluid which may account for some of the sluggishness but after reading various things about the MAF sensor, temp sonsor etc I'm wondering if there could be something engine related amiss? I know the box is these is an old slushbox but my old Senator with half the power seemed livelier on take off than this one does!

I would first check to see if the throttle cable needs adjustment, you may not have 100% throttle available. you can use a scanner and it will tell you at what % your throttle is at when at wide open throttle. when I first got my xjr throttle was only at 85% and and adjustment made a great difference. Oh and you should use the upgraded crank position sensor fabricated by xjrenginer otherwise known as the "Andy bracket", easily worth the money as it is inexpensive and your car will feel 500lbs lighter.

Mine pulls away in first gear with or without "sport" mode..... contrary to Jaguar service literature.

Are you *sure* it's starting off in first gear if you select "sport"?

Cheers

Certainly sounds like somethings not quite right. You should be holding on to your hat with foot down from a standing start. I very rarely put mine in sports mode. Daft question but is all well with the supercharger, no slipping belts etc. If memory serves me well you should certainly be looking at sub seven seconds for 0-60??
Goodluck,

Thanks for the suggestions gents. I changed the plugs and cam cover gasket on Sunday and found the rear plug well full of oil, and it had Champions fitted too - both a big no-no! After cleaning it all up properly it seems to be pulling as it should. Not that I'd noticed but I'm guessing it was misfiring slightly under heavy load - it really does fly now!

I've got my 'Andy bracket' ready to fit - I just couldn't face changing it outside on Sunday with the rain we had here I'm gonna attempt it and a SC oil change this Sunday.
