Default “Trunk Open”...but not

I recently acquired a 1998 XJ8 Vanden Plas. There is a separate key for the trunk only, so I’m assuming there have been issues previously with the lock. The Trunk Open light stays on and I would like to know where to start trouble shooting before I delve into pulling the trunk lock area apart.
Many thanks to All!....Best forum and members ever, no doubt.

Yeah, sounds like its been replaced and someone forgot to connect something or didn't align it. For a matching key setup, you may want to contact Sone and see if he can help... https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/market/227433

I had the same issue in my first 2001. Check the wiring that runs along the right hand side hinge in the boot. Mine was a shorted wire from the lock to the computer at the hinge.

Okay, I posted that “test” because I tried a lengthy post here and it wouldn’t take, and I lost the type....
altight, I checked for frayed or broken wires in the trunk, at the hinge, and found nothing. While in there, I popped open the trunk liner and saw a little greenish connector that ran to the open button. I disconnected it, and that made the “trunk open” light go away....but it also caused my alarm to go off after about 3-4 minutes after I parked the car. Hmmmm. Okay, we’ll I reconnected it thinking the alarm issue would go away, but now the alarm goes off only if I lock the car. Leave it unlocked, and no alarm. I am starting to think it could be the security locking module?? Does that sound possible? All of my brake lights are fine and I say that because I’ve had brake light issues in the past on my other XJ8’s and the SLM was the issue.
Can a faulty SLM cause trunk light/alarm/lock the car issues as described here?
Many thanks in advance, I’m veery perplexed...

I did before this alarm thing started, but I’ll try that again. So do you think the SLM could have anything to do with there issues as well?

You need to look at the switch in the latch assy. They are the same for the X300 and the X308.

I have purchased the micro switch and an actuator. Hopefully this will solve my problem(s).

update...I bought a micro switch and an actuator and installed them myself. Everything working now (it was the actuator), but now I can not for the life of me figure out where that micro switch should be seated! I have it hooked up, but don’t know where to secure it....can you help? Thank you for the suggestions as well!

I was Googling “1998 xj8 micro switch location”, and similar terminology...no results...but then again I had forgotten it went on the latch.
Thank you!
