Hi folks, very new here and am considering buying the subject car from a family friend. A tree fell on the roof breaking the windshield and denting the roof pretty badly (forward of the sunroof). I'll add some pictures when I get them but curious about any thoughts repairing the roof panel on these cars?
Thank you
Mike in Oregon
Hi Mike and welcome to the forums, we hope you enjoy yourself and we hope we can help with your presumed new toy. If and when you get this gal, please introduce yourself here... https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/n...-intro-must-5/
The amount of damage to the "A" and "B" pillars (if any) will be your most telling points. You need to find out if they made an insurance claim and what the insurance company declared it. That being said, if they totaled it, you would have to determine the requirements of the DMV to make it road worthy again. You can go to most any auto body shop (not one of those storage unit guys) and ask them, they know the certification process.
As you stated about posting pics, that would be the most telling of this tale. Hopefully its only tin damage and can just be resheeted.
Thank you Highhorse! Their insurance company wants to total the car, but I'm considering paying the owner what the insurance company is offering to avoid having the car totaled. Essentially cutting the insurer out of the picture. As you may know, once a car is 'totaled' in the USA the vehicle title is branded forever. I attached a few photos of the damage. I'm not too concerned about the windshield or fender, but the roof, specifically considering the sunroof glass is of concern.
That said, this car is the top-spec (from what I understand) Vanden Plas supercharged with the longer wheel base. The car has 90K miles and I think it is worth saving.
I agree, could be worse...what the insurance company wants to total it for is the cost of the sunroof vs actual value. Take it to a reputable shop (unless your qualified) and ask them what they think. I'd also either call or go to your local Jag dealer and ask them who they would use for an X308. Mine readily gave me their 3rd party source.
