Its a press on piece on a key, so it just doesn't pull off. You'll need a puller, probably get a loaner from Autozone or O'reilly's. But once it starts, it comes rather smoothly. You'll need to lock your crank into position and cams so as not to loose time. Do a review of 'tensioner replacement' or 'timing chain replacement'. There's a detail in here using the Site Search... JagRepair.com - Jaguar Repair Information Resource ...from black onyx. Or do a search on site here, there are 10's of threads on this procedure.

One thing a user noted a few weeks back was that if you get the pulley and cone to move just a little bit, you may be able to tap the pulley back towards the engine and pop it loose.

That IS the way it is supposed to be released/removed!!!!! It is all in TSB 303-10.

"move the damper and collar 1 to 2 mm forward on the crankshaft."

"Remove the tool from the damper and then pull the damper forward and off the crankshaft: if necessary, lightly strike the damper to loosen it."
