2000 XJR with codes, light and restricted performance.
I have a 2000 XJR. I have the codes P0300, P1316, P0206 and P1000. I have a check engine light, restricted performance code, it runs rough. I don’t even know where to begin.
I can’t quite understand if it could be ignition coils, ECM, or fuel injectors. Can anyone give me any guidance?
P0300= random misfire
P1316= misfire A bank
P0206=injector disconnected or injector wiring malfunction or injector failure
So I would suspect an injector problem
(don't worry about P1000 it basically indicates that the system has detected a problem and is waiting for it to be fixed, it will turn into a P1111 when the system detects that everything checks out)
Note that P1316 indicates the engine is misfiring at a rate that is allowing so much unburned fuel into the catalytic converters that catalyst damage may occur, so you want to diagnose and resolve this issue before driving the car again.
You can check the electrical connector at the cylinder 6 fuel injector. Here's a diagram that shows which cylinder is #6 on your engine (left diagram, red numbers):
If you can't see any obvious problem with the electrical connection at the injector, you can perform a couple of simple tests with a voltmeter/ohmmeter. With the key turned to position II (ON) but the without starting the engine, measure the voltage between the Black wire with Red tracer line at the fuel injector connector and a good ground point, such as one of the ground posts on the inner wheel arch. You should see something close to battery voltage.
If you find battery voltage at the injector connector, turn your meter to its lowest ohms setting and measure the resistance between the two terminals of the injector and compare the measurement to that of the cylinder 5 injector. If you can't measure any resistance (OL or infinite resistance), or if you measure close to 0 ohms, the injector coil has failed.
If the injector seems to measure the same as the one in cylinder 5, and you have battery voltage at the injector connector, more advanced diagnostics will be required. The first thing I would do is to disconnect the battery, disconnect the ECM, and measure for continuity and low resistance between the ECM connector and fuel injector connector on both the B+ and ground wires.
