2000 XJR left outside?
Hello guys, this summer I have aqired a lovely 2000 XJR, I use it as a daily driver on a short distance commute. I know that this model has suffered from corrosion, this leads me to my next question.
Is it feasible to keep this car outside on a permanent basis?
I love the car but I don't have a garage for it, I would like to keep it but I'd rather sell it if It will rust away in a few years time..

Hi, are you in the UK Chester? If so I would seriously recommend investing in some rust protection. I've seen so many of these cars fall victim to tin worm, one car in Blackpool was so bad you could see the carpets through the bulkhead. There are a few areas to consider, check out this thread: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...onsider-59153/
Also it's worth pulling the front wheel arch liners off and cleaning and sealing behind there, as well as cleaning and sealing the inside of the wheel arch lips where mud pies are created. Get into the habit of regularly cleaning that area.
As far as the actual paint goes, get the car covered with a nice thick layer of wax to protect the paint, I know a detailer who'd travel out to Chester to detail your car for piece of mind, he's passionate about his work so you know it's done right.
How short is your commute? These car's don't like too short a journey as a regular thing, it's best to give the car a good run every so often if your commute is less than 5 miles. Also it's worth getting the transmission fluid changed as a short journey won't be allowing the box to fully warm up.
