Default 2000 XJR Pinion bearing and seal

Have a pinion bearing howl. Has anyone ever attempted a replacement? Is the seal available without flange kit?

Any input appreciated.

Seal here, part number JLM20326:
SNG Barratt - The Ultimate Jaguar Parts Specialist

No idea what's involved in fitting it, it may be a lot easier just to get the whole kit (which SNG Barratt have as well, part JLM20602).

Is yours leaking at all? Mine had a slow leak, and I procrastinated a bit too long before ordering the kit, and ended up blowing the whole diff

it has a slow leak. changed the gear lube. it is full now. I'm just getting a pinion bearing howl on and off load. Gonna replace the front one and see.

I have resources to get a different diff if I ever need.

Slow leaks are generally a blocked breather tube, this can be purchased and replaced to stop oil being forced passed seals.

ah yes, absolutely correct
I should have mentioned that the cause of my leak was pressure building up because of a blocked breather. You don't need to buy a new one, just give the old one a clean and it should be fine.
Of course, getting to it is another story... but you'll want to drop the subframe to do the pinion anyway, so it should be easy enough to take this out and clean it up before putting everything back together

Noise to most degree ended up being LR wheel bearings. Replaced them today. Were in sad shape. Will do other side soon. Still have floating pinion howl at cruise speed.

Default Wow wow wow

All I can say is WOW. Reading another thread,it stated they had found pinion nut loose and resolved noise.

mine has been driving me crazy. For grins I dropped shaft and behold turned pinion nut 3/4 turn befor resistance felt. Snugged down and so far all I hear are the sipes of my new tires.

I will up date after sustained hot run.

Pinion howl be gone so far.

btw....there was no stake mark on nut. Either the factory did not do it od someone replaced seal and flange and did not stake nut.

The howl is gone. tightening and staking pinion nut did the trick. Diff lives to die another day...
