I just paid for an inspection ...

The car needs a new power steering pump
Hi and low pressure hoses
New PS reservoir
New sway bar links
New sunroof headliner
Of course a mechanic will have to do the job

Is that a good deal?
the paint looks great and so is the interior
Is this a good deal?

Get a quote to have all those things done and see what the real cost of the car is
2002 is a good year and mileage is low for the year

I did get a quote , between $1500 to $1700

That's low mileage but I would still want to see the service records before I made a decision.

Thank you but I passed on the car
the interior and exterior were great but the car needed a steering pump and the mechanic told me to replace the reservoir and the hoses etc... plus the sway links and reinstalling the headliner on the sunroof .. and it may have an issue with the left valve cover gasket or its not tight enough...
total 1600 dollars....to 1800 to i passed I hope I did not mess up but thats the way it goes.
Gosh I m getting tired at looking at cars.

Yes I would've been OK w/ 5K or there about. But as my recently acquired gem attests to if you wait & search diligently there are still well maintained but unjustly blackballed X308s for bargain prices around, I almost feel ashamed @ what I paid for mine lol).

120k mileage & let's just say I paid less than the upgrades & repairs(both tensioners sets & transmission) the PO had just done on it earlier this year(complete w/ paperwork & remaining warranty) lol.

Yes, in the trunk, and inside the fuel tank. Not at all "accessible" and one of the more difficult DIY jobs on an X308.

I would like to go look at it and ask him to open the trunk and show me the fuel pump.

Lets face it by this time the x308 are old cars -- finding one with 63k for that "listed" price is the way to go. Especially if it is a one or two owner still garaged car.

I have my eye out for another 02-03 low mile XJR ... IMO the only ones to purchase.

It all depends on what you are looking for .. or want to get out of the car. Most X038's need a headliner at 14 years and most have some suspension issue at this age and 50k+ miles .....finding one needing brakes can be as expensive as the pump and lines.

Some people are just looking for an older decent example to run for a year or two and they think buying cheap is the way to go .... it's rarely the case. With older luxury cars getting the best example (garaged low mile) one can afford is normally the cheapest.

It really does depend what you're looking for.

I bought my 1998 XJR with 80k for $4100 earlier this year. It's in very nice cosmetic condition; had a few dents (popped them out), and a few small rock chips (touched up). Interior wise I had to redye some leather, redo the headliner and replace a door panel. I have done several suspension and steering bits up front, and I did a new WP and Secondary Tensioners. Then I changed every fluid in the car. I'm about $5k into the whole deal. I'm very happy. I also know it's been done right, and because it needed this love, I paid less accordingly. If you don't DIY, definitely buying a minter is the way to go, and even if you do, sometimes the minter truly is cheaper.

It's almost impossible to refresh the cosmetics -- Have to buy in the condition wanted. With the x308 at the bottom of the value curve -- this is a great time to buy the best and stick it in the garage.

I wouldn't say impossible, but I'll probably spend $5400 on my $1300 XJR to get cosmetics to look like a $6700 XJR..
But the satisfaction of before and after is priceless.
