It’s no problem to do as Adam699 mentions. You need to also use the front cover of the 4.2 engine, and you have to use a 6 rib fead belt, iirc the Gates K060935 will be a fit.

As I needed to replace my original lower pulley (the fead ring wasn’t centered anymore), I went also for the 4.2 one which has probably even better damping qualities as the supercharger ring is also part of the damper (contrary to the 4.0 one).

At 1st I was hesitant to do, as my other pulleys (alternator, water pump, pas pump and airco) where still 7 rib, and thought there could be a chance that the belt could hop, but so far after about 15Kmiles all is well, and I don’t expect it to jump anymore.

Just asking what is the reason for the cover swap is it the crank seal or something else front cover is like $500 buck new I could get a overdrive lower pulley for that I was hopping for a cheaper and safer way for more boost than just an upper pulley thank you for the help if you guys might know where I could get a used cover I'm all ears none on eBay right now.
Thanks again

Sorry to resurrect an old thread (but I'm afraid the pics on this thread work no more https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...d-61113/page4/ ) Would you be able to answer why is it the front cover needs to be swapped?

Thanks,

The bottom pulley from the 4.2 is a different design and it fouls the front cover of the 4.0, so you need to fit the 4.2 front cover.

Good stuff - thanks for the quick reply, I presume it would be good practise to fit a new (4.2) crank oil seal to the cover at the same time?
