Default Is 99 V8 GM engine?

Some guy is selling 99 XJ8 for 2500 with seized engine. I would offer him 1500-2000 if I knew that engine parts are cheap. As far as I know GM transmission is used in Jaguars, how about engines?

Not correct on either count. ZF transmissions are used in all XJ/XK models, the -R models getting an upgraded AMG-Spec ZF tranny.

The engine is an AJV8 which is entirely Jaguar's own design. Sorry, you're really misinformed bro.

What's funny is that in spite of all the GM components used on earlier models, I can't think of one GM piece I have seen anywhere on an XJ8.

Car 5,

I wasn't busting your stones, Jaguar used to use transmissions (until '97), A/C compressors, EGR valves, window lift motors, all sorts of GM components back in the day...it just hadn't dawned on me that I hadn't come across any items on XJ8, until you raised the point.

AJV8 Is a lot of jaguar.. but the base is really the ford/lincoln modular V8. The same basic block is used on the Lincoln LS Sedan.
And who makes the transmission for Mercedes AMG? Oh, ZF. All X308s have ZF built trannys, just different models. It's used in the E-Class AMG and the Magnum R/T.

I don't know much about the base block but if you say it's mostly Ford I'll go with that.

Actually no, the Lincoln, uses the Jaguar V8, the Jaguar, is a wholly Jaguar designed engine. The XJR 4.2 uses a Mercedes box, ZF yes, but a lot stronger.
