99XJ8 steering rack questions
Hi, I purchased my first Jaguar about 7 months ago, a 1999 XJ8.
I have put about 1000km a week highway driving on it and noticed that it needed a bit of steering correction especially in the wind. Well recently i had some intermittent but severe wobble.
I checked the wheels and noticed sloppy movement in the main steering rack. It appeared to have a lot of side play.
I have pulled the steering rack off and am taking it apart, but it doesn't seem quite right; There doesn't appear to be any bushing in the pinion end to guide the rack rod. What is there, is a steel "bushing" that appears to have a 1/16" clearance around the rod, so in fact it is not supporting the rack rod at all.
Anyway I have no experience with this for reference, so i need a manual or diagram or some advice.
Does anyone have a schematic, a section diagram would would be great.
Anyone know where i might get one.
Thanks
Mark
