Default ABS and Pecus R warnings

I'm trying to resurrect a 98 xj8 that I purchased will a transmission failure. I got the transmission resolved, replaced a broken sunroof, and replaced the sagging headliner while it was out. Now I have 2 more issues to resolve and I believe it computer module problems that I'm not knowledgeable about. The dash has a PECUS R warning on. I found that this has to do with the rear door driver side module. The rear windows work and the locks also work properly. I exchanged the module from my donor car and still have the warning. What else does the module control or what could be the problem.

Second issue is the dash has the ABS light on with stability and traction faults. I read in the forum that this could be from solder joints in the ABS module. If this is the case I have a module from a donor car or I can repair this module.

I did a hard reset and codes did not clear.

Thanks

Some faults won't clear until the car is driven. You're further ahead by repairing the ABS module since it's easy and always good to have a spare on hand.

RJ, do you know if the module controls anything else besides the windows and door locks.

This should help you. Check the passenger front 1st as the cable between the wheel sensor and body fails first.

ABS module is for brakes. Without a scanner that reads Jag specific codes you will not be able to identify the fault, but it is usually the solder joints to the ABS pump, the two prong plug below the big multiplug. Of course it could also be dirty wheel speed sensors or a broken wire.

You can either cut the case open or cut a hole opposite the plug connection using a hole saw with the starter bit removed.

Do you know where to get a jag specific reader, or is it only a dealer that can read these codes.

I'm using the Autoenginuity software on my laptop. It cost me about $500 a few years ago. I have seen free downloads of the old factory IDS/SDD by doing a google search, but I know nothing about them. Sparkenzap or motorcarman may be willing to comment.

Has anyone tried or have information on how the iCarsoft Jagi930 will work on our cars. I already have a basic OBDII code reader but like to have one that will do abs and srs.

Changed the ABS module with one from another xj8 that I knew was working properly. This cleared up the ABS light, the stability and the traction control faults. So one down and one to go. The driver rear door module was replaced with a module from a donor car. Door is all put back together. Everything works, window from driver door and driver rear door switches, the lock on the door works properly, puddle lamp works, and I still get a PECUS R. I'm kinda stumped. I don't want to take it to the dealer to have them figure it out. Would like to know if anybody else has any ideas.

Hi all, I am new here and notice no one has commented on this thread in awhile. I’m thinking about buying a 99 xjr with 58,000 miles on it for only 1000 bucks. The only issue is it doesn’t start. It wants to but it won’t turn over. It reads Pecus R as well, and I literally cannot find anything on the internet about that code. Can anyone help?

Welcome to forums, please take the time to introduce yourself and your Jag and do a review the site rules. Top left Forums, ...General Jag Forums, ...New Member Area (Intro a Must).
As for your stated issue, download the PDF Motorcarman has provided in post #4 and review it.

Highhourse, Thank you for your reply i didn’t even see that pdf. Are you familiar with this code? This particular xjr won’t turn over. It sounds like it wants to, but it can’t. The only thing that pops up is Pecus R. Does that prevent the car from starting? A rear window control module? It can’t be. Someone said it was something with the instrument cluster, I’m at an impass because it’s such a beautiful car with very low miles. And 1000 bucks seems like a steal. I’m nervous there’s a whole bunch wrong with it! Riley

Riley Moonan , Listen for the fuel pump to run for 3 - 5 seconds and them turn off as you have key to the run before start position . It will turn back on after the ECU sees engine rotation after engine light off .

BobRoy , still thinking on yours . Have you done a Hard Reset ? Maybe the link below may help , note the R code :

Might be somewhere in here : Page 61
