Default AC only cold at idle

AC is only cold at idle, anytime you get on the throttle, it gets warm. Is this to blame? There is a leak coming out the wires on that sensor.

Is the freon overpressurized causing the overpressure switch to disengage the compressor clutch by design

Good question. I have no AC knowledge. Picked it up today from the mechanic shop due to the AC not blowing cold. Went back to the mechanic shop, they told me to bring it back Monday. Just thought I'd ask here for some insight.

Sounds like it is low on refrigerant.
If that sensor is definitely leaking, then it sounds like you have found the culprit.

Obvious thing to replace is the sensor (3-way pressure switch). Then go from there.

my memory is a little foggy -- but it must be a common failure point. My friend in parts had me by purchase the sensor when I did the hose.

Was the system working at all before you took it in ? An empty system should be properly checked for leaks (fixed) -- replace RD -- oil check. Properly evacuate and charge.

It was blowing, you could here the compressor clicking. Just wasn't blowing cold. Going to order that switch shortly.

Well they should have checked further if it was empty -- that's a big leak. I forget the safety system -- I think it read the pressure after the compressor started liek most ...so, an empty system would still engage for a moment. Today they lock out ...

If keeping for a while -- fix once

Once the switch in your pic overpressured it may or may not have resealed as the line pressure came down in leaking

You may at this time be at zero pressure in your freon line or still have pressure in the line
e
negating environmental concerns you may be able to run the AC in your drive and bleed off the freon until the clutch steps disengaging

this would be about the correct servicing pressure

as you drive the car with the AC on you may notice the AC clutch cycling so you would bleed of a bit more freon

this presses would effect your returning back to who serviced it first and any warranty

The switch appears blown, but maybe not permanently. You need to release some of the pressure (great Youtube by some kid showing how; although may be illegal in your state -- not unlike dumping tire pressure). Then install the new switch (or retry with the old one) and see what happens. If not cold or fans don't come on, add freon (again, some great Youtubes).

Went through two switches until I realized it was over pressurized. Unloaded some freon fixed it.

You got it that's the problem
1 replace it
2 vacuum the system or pressurize it and leave overnight making note of the gauge position
3. if all well recharge it
job done

Replaced the AC pressure switch a new OEM one. So far, so good
Let's hope it stays that way.
