Default AfterMarket: Intake/Exhaust/ECU - Options

Hey all. So I've been contemplating upgrading the intake, exhaust and ecu, just to make things a little more interesting.

I did some searching and looked in the FAQs in both here and the XK but didn't find much.

Can anyone recommend me a Cold Air Intake? If there aren't much in the way of performance and economy gains, it would still articulate the V8 roar and I'd still appreciate that.

Also, does anybody offer ECU upgrades for performance and fuel economy?

And are there any aftermarket exhaust options? I'd like to have an exhaust that's refined and gives a nice smooth rumble. I'd like to hear the car when it accelerates but I still also want to have a quiet car when cruising on the highway.

Thanks in advance.

You already have a cold air intake.

As did my Mercedes. I'm not surprised.

Don't worry about the intake. Not going to give you what you need anyway. Start with the exhaust for the sound you desire. We did a few threads in the xk area about dropping mufflers, exchanging silencers, replacement of our center muffler with an x or h-pipe, etc. Even put a few videos with sound on there too, including a 4.0L engine like yours. Take a look and listen. That's your best bet for a good engine note. ECU is a custom mapping thing...not sure what you want with ECU mods though, more power?

I was hoping there was something to help with power and fuel economy. For example if I bought a Mercedes W124 with the M119 V8, a $600 reworked ECu could yield 3-5 MPG increase and about 30 horsepower.

Just stumbled across one of the threads regarding the exhaust.

h20boy, After some reading, I read that you were satisfied with removing the center muffler and adding a H crosspipe as far forward as possible.

I agree with how you want to hear the exhaust, but not it be overwhelming, and be comfortable at highway speeds.

The other thing I was considering was the Mina or Arden exhaust...but probably Mina because I've read some good reviews. Anybody have any videos of the Mina or Arden exhausts?

Default Should have bought an XJR.

Sorry, but the thread title of "AfterMarket: Intake/Exhaust/ECU - Options" on a normally aspirated 4.0l V8 Jaguar engine isn't going to yield much. If you add up what it will cost to bolt on an induction kit, exhaust and a re-map for maybe 15-20hp, and drop in fuel economy, is it really worth the effort?

Only way I 'improved' my fuel economy was to put new spark plugs in, change the fuel filter (probably insignificant, but part of that little 'project'), clean the throttle body and MAFS, and reset the ECM. (and a lighter right foot) My mpg is fantastic, averaging 22.4 right now with over 400 miles on the trip odometer and mixed highway/city driving. (I do have the 6-speed, so will be a little better mileage on highway than your 5-speed)

I've seen a few mina exhaust videos linked on the forum. An advanced search may reveal them.

hmm...maybe I'll just stick in a K&N air filter, and get a custom exhaust then.
