Just want to be sure im talking about the correct engine with rebuilders.

The VVT sensors are on each cam on the side of the cam covers.
Can someone confirm this is the AJ26?

That is an AJ27. The AJ26 has the solenoids out the front of the covers.

 

I thought it was an AJ27 as this is a 1999 car?.. is this ppossible?

 

sorry.. typo.. i meant to say i thought it was an AJ26 as this is a 1999 car.. thought it therefore has nikasil liners in it.. does this mean it has steel one s if its an AJ27?

That engine is an AJ27....early one's were Nikasil. The steel liner 27's where introduced in August 2000. That particular engine has the later throttlebody and as TP says, the VVT pickups are out of the tops of the cam covers. Not much more to say except check the bores.
