Anyone know how to fix rear view mirror? fluid inside
My XJR rear view mirror hasn't had the auto dimming feature working for a while. A few nights ago I just turned it up because i was on the eway for about an hour and was being blinded by the people behind me.
I forgot about it and left it up like that to find it the next morning with a huge bubble looking thing on the top of the mirror. I have read that there is fluid inside but nothing is leaking out. Since these aren't cheap and there is a potential to break the windshield when taking it off, is there any fix besides a replacement mirror assembly?
Thanks

You should run no risk of windshield breakage when removing the mirror. It simply slides off its mount by pushing down toward the dash along the plane of the windshield.
You will need to find a replacement if you want a functioning auto-dimming feature. These are available used (see eBay, specializedpartsplanet.com, and others) and now, I believe, in aftermarket versions.

. . . is the manufacturer (or at least the U.S. representative). I received a replacement mirror when mine failed in 2007, when my car was eight years old.
I do believe the program was long ago ended, but I couldn't hurt to rattle their cage about this. You have nothing to lose by doing so.

This is the first time that I've ever heard of anyone refurbishing electrochromic mirrors. This is a great thing to know about!

It does NOT MATTER what mirror is supposed to fit the car if you send the original mirror, they will repair it.
There are several options
Twilight Sentinel
Rain Sensing
Later cars have a compass.
Just send the original mirror and install it when it is returned.
