Default ASC Traction Control Warning light

The 2001 SC VDP has been flashing the ASC / Traction Control not available warning messages lately.

The local shop replaced a wheel sensor and some wiring but the messages are still happening with the same frequency. Now they suspect the ABS module which is $$$.

Wondering if the ABS module is common problem on the early 2000's models.
If so, is it better to have a module rebuilt buy a trusted vendor?

I had similar problems with a Volvo wagon once and was able to find a shop the not only rebuilt the ABS unit but upgraded it in the process so it was not so likely to fail in the future. Is there any shop out there doing this type of service on the Jag ABS units?

This also happens when your battery is old. had the same problem.
very low battery - abs/trac, airbag lights, non working electric window.
low battery - abs/trac sometimes on after start, after 10 min turn off/start ignition and it fixes.
new battery - no problem)

pilot- you may well find it cheaper in the long run by having the codes read by an independent with Jag software or even a dealer. You have already thrown money at it with no results.

If the module does need repair, there are several companies that do so at $100 or less. Here is one of them:

Automotive Scientific Inc. Your #1 Source for ECU, TCU, ABS, EBCM, Climate Control and Speedometer Repairs

I got lucky and was able to purchase a used SLCM module on Ebay for $175.00.

If you find that it is the problem is with SLCM, then it might be better to have your existing repaired.

There does seem to be a lot of good used SLCM available even on Ebay that can be used on your 2001 XJ.

Update: Pricey one - now on EBAY - BUY It now $299 or best offer LNG2600HB - shipper in North Carolina
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1998-1999-00...3cd7d0&vxp=mtr

and another one now on Ebay for $165 or best offer:

You will need to look at the Jaguar VCATS - (Vehicle Configuration And Test System) List label in the trunk of your 2001 XJ.

Our 2001 XJ8 showed the following info for the SLCM:

LNG2600HB/008 --- SLM is Security Locking Module, LNG2600HB is the part number, /008 is the program revision number

Here is a thread that I started on the VCATS List (it explains its use and location):

Many on here have repaired their own ABS module, including me. Check out this thread -

and yes, this is very common.

I had this problem on my 2001 XJ8 - it was a bad connection at an inline connector. Follow the ABS wires and see it there are inline connectors. My 01 had them about 3 ft from the sensors. At the front, just tucked inside the engine bay at the bottom of the inner wing.

I suspect they did away with them at some point, as an 03 XJ8 owner told me he had none. This fits with my Land Rover experience - around 01/02 they did away with inline connectors and ran wires straight to the module. Makes it a bugger to change sensors...

Which wheel sensor and what wiring were replaced? The wires from the front wheel sensors back to the frame on each side is known to wear out.

Thanks for all the posts everyone. Glad to see this is a somewhat common problem with a common fix -- get it rebuilt.

I should have mentioned it was the local Jag dealer that tracked the problem down the wiring connecting a wheel sensor to the ABS module. However, after this was replaced, there was no change in the problem.

The dealer now believes ABS module JLM21323 needs to be replaced. They are giving me the option to source a rebuilt unit myself to keep the costs down. I think I'll go that route. The few people I spoke with suggested Module Master was a good company to do this rebuild. Wondering if anyone has had a good experience with this company or whether they would recommend a company with a better reputation for doing these rebuilds?
