I recently had to have my bumper repaired and repainted. They did a fantastic job with the exception that now, when I put the car in reverse...I’m getting a solid beep that lasts 10 seconds, and nothing else. It seems the alert system is disabled.
My though is that they painted over the sensors? I’m not sure where they are, but I’m thinking they are the little nodules, one on each side and two on the rear part.
My question is...can I use something to remove the paint on the sensors, or are they inexpensive enough, and easy enough to replace?
If I am wrong, and those are NOT the sensors, what could my issue be?

I'll bet the shop probably just forgot to reconnect the wires.

If they did paint over them, then take it back and have them clean if off. It won't take them but a couple minutes with some paint thinner or as the previous have stated, they can hook up the connections.

 

If the electrical connections are good, then the paint is just too thick. We had to send cars back to the paint shop after repairs for this fault.

You can get the Ford based sensor for under $20

 

they are but a thin film. Too much and no bueno. To know if its elect or paint . Key on engine off in reverse. Put your ear right to the sensor and you should hear fast clicking if working wether paint issue or not. My bet would be they left disconnected because too much paint will render the same issue most times and a too close object. Either way they need to fix.

 

I guessed that it was an electrical fault because on mine, if it thinks I'm too close, it doesn't just stop beeping after 10 seconds, rather it keeps going. Since he described it as a 10 second solid beep, that sounded to me like it was probably registering an error. But almost all my paintwork experience is with classic cars. So what's the best strategy dealing with these sensors? Leave the factory paint on the sensor holder and only paint the bumper cover and live with whatever match is achieved? Or is it just to strip and paint the holders separately with no primer and fewest coats that will cover?

 

One of mine did stop working -- the sensor is at least two parts. One of the guys in the club years back needed a new cover -- and he removed the carriers. I guess some paint the bumper with the sensors in place?
