Hi fellow Jaguar Folk
I'm getting around my recently acquired 3.2ltr XJ8 (308) 2001 and I can see I've got the original Motorola telephone hand set in the front center arm rest and the control module (see pics) stuck onto to the top of the rear (boot/trunk) fuse box. Now the thought of actually using this phone is beautifully endearing and I would gladly get it back into use if it were possible. Why, because I always pull-over on the very few occasions I would take a call whilst driving . . so unlatching the armrest is just as easy as recovering a mobile from a hip pocket. But I believe that the network to carry the original telephone system has long since been switched off?
If that is the case, can I just disconnect the equipment, unplug all connectors and tape them off and will everything be hunky-dory . . or will I put my car into a dizzying head spin doing this? Anyone removed the in-car telephone equipment and if so . . is there a right and a wrong way?
Any top tips would be gratefully received. Module on top or rear fuse box Module OEM number
You can put a normal SIM card in it and use pay as you go to operate it. I had mine working in my 3.2 which I sold in 2019. I’d simply divert calls to the car number when driving so I could get hands free.
If you did decide to remove it then I’d be interested in taking the kit off your hands, I’m not too far away from you. I know the system well and removal is straightforward if you know what you’re doing.
