Default Clear coat failure?

Hello everyone, I have a car cover and yesterday morning, it was misting out. My car cover did get wet, but once I put it back on; it dried within an hour. However this morning, there were a few wet spots left on the paint. There was a little bit left on the trunk, and a little on the hood. The paint on the hood seemed to turned to a light color where the water was. However, the paint on the trunk was just fine. Is this just wax discoloration, or clear coat failure? My aunt had the Jag repainted years ago with a cheap auto paint company.

( If this needs to be moved to the detail / car care forum, feel free to. )

Not what I was hoping for... I don't understand how water can go through two layers of wax and destroy the clearcoat.

The car cover contributes, as it holds the water and does not allow it to run off. Wax fills the pores in the paint, but if the clear coat is old and really porous, the water will get through.

Well it is around 8 years old, and been repainted by a cheap paint company. So, I guess that would make sense. Right now it's not too bad, you can't see it much in the sunlight. I'm looking for autobody / paint shops around town that can give me a good price to repaint the hood.

My roof is covered in that. A good polish should remove most of the clouding...

I would suggest not going through a chain or "budget" repair sop as this is likely to happen again... Go to a smaller locally owned business.

My car is 15 years old and still has original paint with no defects like this...is C.C. failure common to these vehicles?

First torrential rain since I've acquired it, I went outside you can actually see the water bubbling underneath the CC. Took it to a local shop he said he could remedy the trunk lid for 250$. It's weird to me as I can actually touch & move the bubbles with my hand lol.

It's called "solvent pop" & happens with panels that have been repainted & someone adds more clear to make it "match" better visually. Also can happen when containments are present during CC spraying or so I'm told. The paint underneath the bubbles actually looks good lol.

Oh well it will be taken care of here, let us know if a good polish works for you.

Well this happened again today; the other time it disappeared on its own within a day.

That does not sound good... What does that mean? The good news is I decided to never use my car cover again after this. Should have done it before this occurred though.

The moisture entrapped causing the bubbling will eventually burst it, exposing the paint underneath. I just had my trunk lid re-sprayed from the same issue.

My 13 year old 130k-mile factory paint still looks great, and the car has literally hundreds of dings from parking many years in NYC, only very few even penetrate the paint/cc. Definitely high quality Jaguar paint/cc - your problem definitely is the aftermarket paint job. My prior 3 cars all had very deteriorated clearcoats within 2-3 years of the abuse endured parking on NYC streets. This Jaguar is a remarkable vehicle!
