Default Code Reader

Hi

I've a 2001 Sovereign 4ltr and have problems with "Engine Safety Mode" and loss of Cruise Control. I got a replacement Brake peddle switch from ebay which was seemingly the main culprit for the problem. I fitted the new switch but about 3 days later the problem returned.
I live in Tenerife so the help here is minimal unless I go to the main dealer 60 miles away and pay a fortune.

I then decided to see if I could find a code reader to see if the replacement switch which I bought from Ebay was also faulty.
There are loads of readers on Amazon and there was a reader which caught my eye for only £12.00 - "U480 CAN-Bus OBDII OBD2 EOBD Trouble Code Read Diagnose Tester Diagnostic Scanner
by BV & Jo"

Will this read the error codes on my Jag

Regards

Dave

Just buy a random OBD2 bluetooth connector instead. should be cheap also.
This is the one i use and it works fine
ELM327 Vgate Scan Advanced OBD2 Bluetooth Code Reader Support Android Symbian
then download Torque on your phone and start reading) Torque did not let me down on different cars yet

I do not believe an OBDII reader will display the codes for this problem.

Well, the dealer level software which is called IDS and uses a "Mongoose" or Ford "VCM" to interface to the car will do it. That will set you back about $1000. to 2000. or so.

AutoEnginuity with Jag extensions will run on you laptop and will read manufacturer specific codes but NOT program modules will cost about $500. as I recall.

If I was trying to keep a Jaguar running in Tenerife, I would get one of those. Heck, I am keeping a few running in Atlanta and I have both!

There are code readers mentioned on the forums that supposedly read the ABS codes, but the Autoengenuity with the Jag extension is definitely capable of reading the B and C codes, and can also do real time monitoring of many engine functions. But not , unfortunately on either of my cars. It is aimed at the 4.2L cars but will be sufficient for handling the majority of issues with your 2001.

Ross has the best solution with his IDS, but I'm unwilling to spend that much.

AutoEnginuity connects and works fine for U, B, and C codes no my X-300 and X-308.
