Default Cruise control issues (I know, I know)

My 1998 Vanden Plas’s cruise control is on the fritz. Classic “engine fail safe” mode after 100 ft.
I have replaced the vacuum solenoids with what we’re guaranteed to be a working replacement. I’m getting a “hissing”, vacuum leak sound in that area, and it varies if I flick the canister unit a bit. I have also heard this sound with the replacement unit. Is that normal? It will not stay engaged.
New brake switch installed to no avail. Is there relay I could address? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as always!
I know this subject has been addressed ad nauseum and I apologize for rehashing it but I REALLY REALLY REALLY miss my cruise control.

I don't recall hearing a hissing sound from my 97 canister. Are you sure it's not the throttle body intake you're hearing? Connect a piece of tubing to the nipple on the canister and see if you can pull air through it.

Are you talking about the black canister at the top of the throttle body?

The hissing fluctuates when I tap the small vacuum canisters, it seems to be coming from that area, but the tubes are all good, tiny elbow joint and T connection is good too.

Found one for 40 and one that has TPS sensor? Does this one look complete?

Okay, I’ll give it a shot. I’m assuming that the throttle body has a lot to do with the correct operation of the cruise control.

Hello again,
My car has been in the shop off and on since this last post about my cruise control, so I had not tried your suggestion. Got the car finally running great after MUCH hassle, but that’s another story all together.
Okay, I put a piece of tubing on the throttle body intake as you suggested, but when I tried sucking air through it, I could hear a distinct “click” towards the left of the engine compartment (looking at the car). It sounded like it would click open and the shut as I tried sucking and blowing air, but wouldn’t allow me to do any more than that, like it was opening and closing.
What does that mean, at this point?
Many thanks!
Scott
