Default In Desperate Need of HELP!

I replaced the alternator, battery. And serpentine belt on my 2001 Jaguar XJ8. After doing this a message pops up that’s reads “Battery Not Charging”. The alternator was tested (results good), what should be my next steps? Is there a fuse I can or a relay that has to do with the alternator? Grounding connections all seem good. I’m at a complete loss and I put every last bit of effort I could into this project.. any help would be appreciated thank you!

Have you measured the charging Voltage ? Does it really not charge?

If you can, measure the voltage (while running) at the back of the alternator, on the bulkhead just behind the right front shock tower and at the battery. From the back of the alternator and at the battery, the voltage loss should be no more than 0.4v. 14.2 is about average charging system voltage when measured at the battery with no loads on. If it’s more than that, you’ll have to check all the connections to see if anything is loose, corroded or hot to the touch.

Welcome to the forums CHoseph38,

What issue(s) prompted you to fit these new parts at the same time?

1. charging fault (alternator)
2. non start (battery)
3. drive belt (breakage)

I'm trying to understand if you are troubleshooting a pre-existing fault OR if this “Battery Not Charging” is entirely subsequent to these replacements.

Please read the guidance for new members ( https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/n...ned-up-241802/ ) which answers many of the most frequent questions about getting started on the forums.

Some cars (i'm assuming the x308 among them) use a separate 12v exciter wire which is required for the alternator to charge. In some cases, a dead bulb in the cluster can cause no current to pass through this wire and then you have no charging. Might be worth testing the wires to the back of the alternator to ensure you are seeing 12v where you should.

Find a local who rebuilds alternators and starters and take it to them.

And we could probably better help you if we knew where you are

Yes I agree. It sounds like the "new" alternator is not doing what it is supposed to.

In the trunk behind the spare tire, you will see the cable from the battery positive terminal going into a black housing. Under the cover you will see two large fuses and heavy 12v cables. Make sure the nuts are tight and check the fuses for continuity.
