Default Did the Mechanic overcharge me & other questions

Hey fellow Jaguar Owner,

This the newbie from https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/n...-newbie-61357/. Got my car back from the mechanic this morning.

The Good News: Engine and Tranny appear to be in great condition !

The Mechanic:
Changed the Oil, 8 qt of synthetic
Changed the Rear Breaks "Cen 300"?
Changed the front shocks "KYBKG5783"?
Changed the timing belt

He charged me $775.00 for the parts and labor. Was this a good price?

He said that I need rear shocks
I need a rear left tire
Eventually I need a new air filter and gas filter
And Their is a part in the on both sides of the engine that looks like the Jewish spinning toy. The one on the left was replaced but the one on the right needs replacing and the part alone is $400.

Wow this car is not going to be cheap to maintain but damm it looks good!

Question: What is the Valet button for? Also, the S button when do I press it to switch to sport mode? While I'm driving or before I start driving?

Thanks in Advance

There is no timing belt on these cars. I guess you mean the serpentine belt that drives the AC and alternator, etc. The valet button is for when you give the key to a valet who parks your car at the opera and don't want them going through the trunk. Hit the sport mode button any time you feel like you want to do some "spirited driving". Some like me, just leave it on all the time. Not sure about the draedles (sp?). KYB shocks ? I've had them before. Some people swear by Bilsteins though. Congrats on the car and welcome. There is a lot of info on here.

Welcome to the forum!

If you would put your model and model year in your signature line or in a post it would help a lot in responding.

And yes . . . these cars are expensive to maintain. Most of the regulars on the forum do some, if not all, of their own service and repairs.

Badkitty posted a great quote recently that truly applies to these cars:

"I have come to understand that owning a Jag is like owning a horse. There's no joy in it unless you love taking care of it."

Hi and welcome to the forum.
Not sure if you got a deal or not, it depends on exactly what parts were replaced.

Rear Brakes could mean replacing Brake Pads, Brake Rotors (Disks) and Emergency Brake Shoes. Or just Brake Pads. Big differences (2 Disks part cost can be over $200).

Give a detail list of what was replaced and we will be able to give a better idea of what it should cost.
