While waiting for the crank holder and pulley puller to arrive from the club tool loan program I started removing some components I'll replace while doing the timing chain guides and tensioners. I notice the original water pump (left) has a large o-ring on the impeller spout, while the new pump has only the full flange gasket. Will this work or do I need to reorder the pump? I don't remember the o-ring on the pump I replaced when doing the chains on my '01 XJR, so I'm wondering if this was a difference between the AJ-26 and 27 engines. Thanks.
Without knowing if I'm right or not I'd ask is that a difference between the early pumps that lost the plastic impeller & later replacements that don't?

THAT is the difference between the original AJV8 pump and the later version.
Sometime in the mid 2000s I went to the parts dept and got a replacement water pump for an AJV8.
I noticed it was under $100 USD (something like $83?) as opposed to over $200.
I opened the box and noticed the pump sealed differently and was redesigned.
There are still some older style pumps out there and I run across them every once in a while.
