Yes, if it is not he bushes, you definitely require a professional wheel alignment.
Lift the front tyres up with a proper car jack (best not to use the one is the boot, as that one can be quite dangerous) - lifting one front wheel after another is good enough - and then try to move your (lifted off the ground) wheel by trying to push and pull it with your hands. If it moves, you need new bearings.
Yes, sure. "Toe out" is one of the possible incorrect kinds of wheel alignment.
Which is why I was (above) already leaning towards a wheel alignment.
To point out how important a correct wheel alignment is:
Back then (way back) I was not aware of how important a correct wheel alignment is.
I swapped the tie-rods (front, obviously) of my van. I tried to mount them in the same position the best I could. I had new tyres in the front.
Then I drove 600km in one go... - when I arrived I at the destination I had no more thread at all on the front tyres and I was worried the the police would spot my parked car overnight.
The next morning I went for new tyres and a wheel alignment...
Thanks guys,
A professional wheel alignment is something I should only do at a Jag dealer? Or is a well regarded service shop ok?
A good tire shop should have laser alignment like sharkeye, I would not suggest the Dealer as they add their cut, after sending it to the tire shop in a few cases I know of.
It's bushes though.
As Sean says: Go to a reputable tyre shop with laser-equipment and a guy, who is able to operate it correctly.
But only after you are sure that it is not he bushes, because if you go with worn bushed to the wheel alignment, the wheel-alignment was "for the cat"...
Note: "It's for the cat" is the word by word translation from a German (Hessian) saying - it means that was in vain. The "cat" there has no connection to a Jaguar, that is pure coincidence (no pun intended...)

His is a 2000 XJR, however an inspection is still warranted.
The TSB I referenced deals with the later 'metalastic' type bushes, not the very early plastic.
