We had all of our timing chains and tensioners replaced 6 weeks ago on our 2001 xj8. We rented the Deluxe timing alignment tool set kit from Christophers Foreign cars in Ocean City NJ. The rental is $75.00 for 3 weeks and includes the shipping to you. They also sell genuine Jaguars parts. We brought the complete timing chain kit ($649.00) and the water pump ($74.95) from them. They did not charge any sales tax.
Here is their website link http://stores.christophersforeigncar...StoreFront.bok

Also I found and had our mechanic use the following Jaguar timing chain replacement step by step guide (with photos showing each step) on the blackonyx.net website
Here is the website link

It took our mechanic 10 hrs to completely change all the timing chains and the water pump ( he also changed the engine oil, oil filter, and all the hoses).

We were lucky that when the secondary timing chain tensioners broke on the driver side of the engine that it did not cause any other damage to the engine. The other timing chains primary and secondary tensioners were also in poor condition and ready to fail. The primary or secondary chains themselves were in very good condition, but we had them replaced anyway.

Jim, thanks for the suggestion. I went ahead and used it yesterday, since they rent the full set so you dont have to change tools from side to side and they rent for the longest terms, that I found.
