Hello Chaps,
I'm wondering if anyone knows of a way to either:

A) Remove the door frame from the door so I can swap it with a different one

OR

B) Remove the chrome from the door frames and swap with a door that doesn't have chrome.

This is for a project my friend & I are working on.

When my VDP was damaged in the late 90's -- I remember discussions with the insurance company regarding the cost to fix the doors. The VDP having more chrome than a standard XJ makes it even more difficult -- I was told the chrome is glued on and normally gets damaged removing it.

The door frame (window surround) is connected to the interior panels of the door. Both of my doors had damage and I was fighting the insurance company -- they wanted to replace only the outer skins and then straighten the doors.

I don't believe it is advisable to try to switch out the window frame.


Maybe a trip over to your local body shop that fixes the Jags for the dealer -- it maybe cheaper to have them do it or maybe you can get the info on how they attempt it.


My VDP was thankfully declared "totaled" - so it was never fixed.

But thanks anyway, I've found a place that will sell me front ones new in the UK but only has LWB rears. However there are other suppliers I can try
