Default !! Engine Stall !! 98 XJ8 79K

Hello all. Everything has been running sweet (still getting used to all the excess HP) and enjoying being a part of a great company.

I've drove about 2k miles without a hitch really, besides 3 times i've had an 'Engine Stall' and all power loss. seems to be a month+ between each time. It has happened with sport mode on and off. The first two times it happened just gettingonto the interstate. at 70mph or so and losing all power in the peddle, then the car winds down to a stop. basically just pullonto shoulder, turn off and back on again, and itdoesn't happen again.

Earlier today came the 3rd stall (had been about a month since done it last) on a local Missouri HWY at 60mph. I popped intosomeones driveway, the dashpops engine stall. Turn off car, turn it back on, doesn'thappen again. Is this a computer problem or?

I reset my computer last week, so I know that didn't have anything to do with it sinceit did it before that as well. What do you guys think?

EDIT: After doing more searching, there seems to be 1 post on this on I could find. Throttle body.. something about a recall.. I will try to check to see if it's already been done.

If I remember correctly, I looked up your VIN and I think it was done. If you want to PM your VIN again I will check.
If the TB recall was done, it is a possible mismatch in the pins to the TPS. Nickel vs gold. Do you get restricted performance or anything else when it stalls showing in instrument pack message center? If so, would be nice to scan it while the light is on.

Thank you sir, I will PM my vin now.

No sir, no restricted performance light, the only way I know it's stalling is because there is no power, then once it gets down to like 30mph and lower to a stop it pops theengine stall. That's about it.

thanks dude

This is from the first post:

"Throttle body.. something about a recall.. I will try to check to see if it's already been done."

You need to go to a Jaguar dealer. This is the first thing they should check.

I had the throttle body replaced in my 00 XJ about 2 years ago... and still, the dissimilar metal Throttle Position connector issue hit me about six months ago. The dealer did not replace the tin harness pins with gold when they replaced the TB, idiots.

Anyway, a simple cleaning of both sides of the TPS connector with contact cleaner/lubricant from Radio Shack (made for old style TV tuners) has eliminated the issue - throwing an engine fail and no-go with many error messages that occurred about monthly, then by the third month was occurring every several hours, then minutes. THEN it finally threw a CEL and a code. That's how I traced it to the TPS connector. I've had no recurrence for about 3 months now, since the connector cleaning.
