Default European Headlights

Good Morning
I have a Jaguar XJR on a 51 plate. I have moved to France and need to change to headlights that pass the control technique ( M.O.T ). Is there a switch to do this or does it have to be done in another way.
Thanks

Welcome to the forum.

For info guys a 51 plate is a 2001 example.

I don't know enough about your car to answer your question, there may be a height adjuster lever inside the back of the lamps.

But, look at the details on the glass, does it say DOT LH or DOT RH with an arrow pointing L/R?

If so you may have a problem with the CT station.

Also, where are you up to with your import documents, the CT station is unlikely to accept a UK reg document (they don't contain all the required details and as everything is now computerized, well.....).

Anyhow I hope that someone can give you more info on your specific headlights.

you need to change the outer lamps to lhd ones. By the way, a 51 plate can be MY2002 production year. Try Richard at Eurojag, or Britishparts co uk. The dealer will be a last resort, I suspect they'll be expensive.

You could try used ones from a North American source as they are all LHD and therefore much more common.

I'm not sure if they would work well in Europe as I read somewhere that Euro lights have a blade of light at the edge of the beam pattern to light up road signs and US spec ones lack this. I think I read it on here in Crosbo's HID article.

Try Britishparts.co.uk they may sell original LHD Euro units or as Sean says try those specialists.

North American seem to be the same from experience.

The part numbers would be the ultimate test.

In any case they at least point in the required direction.

Just had a look at Crosbo's Thread and the US spec lamps DO have the euro spec cut off. I got confused with something I read in the same thread, though it has been some months since I read it!

Soz Boz!

Hi Mr Matt, I've been in France for about 10 yrs now and done quite a few car and bike imports so if you need a general hand, don't hesitate to ask.

Now, as to dipped LHD headlights for your 2001 XJ8 - I'm about to go the the same thing as I'm on the point of buying one myself - as you know you have twin headlight on the XJ; the price you quoted is for the complete two light assembly. You can and should buy the outer lights only which are available for approx £135 each. These can then be installed into the existing assembly.

Good luck

Dave

I know it's not the same model but i recently converted the headlights on my X350 from RHD to LHD, have a look https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...adlamps-73200/

BTW lads, why not stop by the Europe Regional Section (see link in my signature) we are looking to set up a meet for all the French members, maybe you could give some input.
