All of a sudden, with no warning, the amber light comes on with a message that reads "failsafe engine mode".
I get no restriction in performance, no other clues to what it may be... all I noticed was that the cruise control wont work when it comes on.
It will come on at random, ad go away the same way.
Then come back again...
Then go away again.

Any advise? Do I have a problem on my hands?

Well of course you have a problem, the Failsafe mode is alerted. You need to have the OBD codes checked and see what it is telling you. If you do not have a reader you need to go a AutoZone, Local Garage, PepBoys and get them to read it for you. When they do you need to write the codes down and then post that information and we will try to help. My guess is your brake switch but unable to confirm.
