Default FM Audio Transmitter problems.

Hi all,

For years i've been using these cigar plug in bluetooth - FM transmitters that allow you to play your phone through the cars speakers. All very rudimentary stuff, but for some reason they won't work in this Jag.

Do other people have them in their X308? Is there an issue with using them that i can't fathom? It's just your typical ebay chinese unit (although i have several different ones), they all work fine in other cars, just tune the stereo into the correct frequency and voila! But in the Jag there's just static and the occasional vague ghost as i cycle through the full FM band.

Help, before i take a hammer to it...

Cheers!

Maybe the aerial is too far from the transmitter? (mounted near the boot lid)

Can you move the transmitter near the aerial to get a better signal?

Fair comment but already tried that with no joy. It's not the transmitter, my other car can pick it up sat outside the garage with the transmitter sat in the Jag IN the garage.

The Jag does struggle to pick up radio stations at the best of times, is there possibly a common issue with signal reception? Perhaps a poor connection? I know it's only a bit of coax from head unit to aerial, but i'm clutching at straws.

I have one in my Jag (China made) plugged into the rear cigar lighter socket and it works perfectly. Obviously, your radio has some fault.

Indeed. Now, the question is: What? Is it the radio, the coax/wiring, or the aerial itself

Is your radio working fine without the FM transmitter? I use one and it even works or the aerial is not up. I can use both cigarette lighter ports without an issue. Do you have tried it using manual search mode?

The Jag does struggle for any signals when it's in the garage (unlike my other cars) which leads me to think it's a lack of receiving ability. Any suggestions as to where the problem may be? Manual searching makes no difference.

The connections to the radio itself are fine as i have it out of the dashboard already.

I would check the integrity of the electric aerial connector in the boot.
Make sure the ground strap is connected.

Good shout Bob, cleaning up the corroded earth strap seems to have done the trick!

Cheers bud!
