Fog Light Issue 1999 XJ8

So I thought I had a simple fix when i noticed that the light was out. Bought an exact replacement, popped it on in there aaaaaaand...nothing. Left one is going strong but the right side has just given up. The wires leading into the socket look fine, but I am hardly an electrical engineer. Can anyone shed some light on this problem? Fuse? Wiring? or is it just a mystery that I will have to shell out $$$$ at the dealership to get resolved.

Often times a bulb filament failure will cause a short and blow the circuit fuse. I don't know from memory where that fuse is located, have a look in your owners handbook and it will likely tell you it's in the right engine bay fusebox.
My guess would be the socket. My Hummer used to have problems with the sockets. Clean it well with WD40 and see if that helps. You could also put a tester on the socket to see if any voltage shows up. Likely, if the bulb does not light, then there won't be, but this will rule out a faulty NEW bulb.
JagtechOhio, I didn't mean to make it sound that way.
I respect your oppinion GREATLY! I just happen to have the manual on my computer in PDF.
PS: Until I read this, I never knew the headlights were seperate. Good info for future.

Thanks for the kind words, mine were sincere as well. Part of being a credible source means making sure you get it right when you're wrong. My answer was expedient, yours was accurate, and I thank you for it.
