What is the purpose of the front bumper expansion tank?
How the heezies would you get to it, if you needed to ie. it cracks?
How do you know when it goes on the fritz?
When refilling the coolant system after a flush, is this tank going to have to filled too and how do you make sure it does get filled if it's suppose to be?
What does it look like? Anyone have a pic of it?
And where can you find one. Been drawing up blanks as I only come across the expansion tank that is easy accessable in the engine compartment?
Part Number?
Yea I heard about this legendary mythical expansion tank but cant find a lick of info on it. But what do you know, a Jaguar forum and with all the Jags running around here, I figure someone at least has to know about it.
here goes an explanation - atmo tank is there because of over filing or overheating. If the coolant expands to the point where is travels to the tank, on cooling it's sucked back into the expansion tank, that's all.
It should not be filled along with the coolant, it's purely there to contain expanded fluid, and return it into the system on cooling. That's it's purpose in a nutshell.
To remove it, the undertray needs removal, jack the front of the car up and look at the rhs from the front of the car, it's located under the rhs headlamp. It's held on with either 3 or 4 8mm nuts, an extension is required to reach them. It's in a similar position as the screen washer bottle but on the other side, and not accessible from the engine bay.
Jim, big thank you for this explanation.
had been hunting for my coolant leak everywhere and was in the process of checking for head gasket leak when I noticed a couple of hot drops of coolant coming out of the pipe to the recovery tank. Wrapped it in tape and have hopefully found (& solved) the issue... After several years of scratching my head! 😁
Hopefully that's fixed it All good on the head gasket check
