Default Headlight bulb brightness

Hi there - I have noticed how my dipped beam (outside) lights are way less bright than the full beam. Yes - I would expect there to be a difference but it seems to be massive - see photo. I have got 70w H7 halogens in the dipped units, not sure what's in the main beam - not touched those since I bought it. Does anyone think I might have some electrical issue, or do I need to recalibrate my eyesight back to '90s bulb tech? Many thanks!

I'd quess that there might be 24V bulbs instead of 12V ? I would not use 70w only because the heat increase what those do. If there is no faults in the dash about front lights. I don't think that there would be grounding issue. But you can easily measure voltage across the bulb when bulb is attached to the socket.

Agreed on both points - it may be a 24v bulb, and if not then 70w could overheat the housing. Bulb brightness should be relatively comparable, probably worth checking the wiring if the other points check out OK. Or an easy check, swap the low beam and high beam bulbs and see what happens.

I've run Phillips xtreme vision 130 for my low beams and has excellent results. Minimal blue coating on the glass (this actually decreases total output...) and great lifetime and brightness.

Is this issue in both low beams with the 70w bulbs?

Try swapping the bulbs high beam to low beam and see if the problem moves with the bulbs or stays with the wiring.

For whatever its worth, I've been using these H7 LED bulbs in both sets of headlamps since February and they've been great. H7 size and no fans or other heatsink, so they fit right into the factory plug without any modification or zipties. They're bright but not obnoxiously so and nobody ever flashed their lights at me like my brights are on. Cheap at $30 a pair.

Thanks everyone for the info. I live on a farm and had grabbed a couple of H7 bulbs out the store, they were indeed 24v - so my bad. Will swap for the correct voltage.......

And don't go for any wattage higher than the specified 55W.
