Default Heads

I have came across a dilemma. My 2001 xjr is in need of head work. No shops around me are willing to rework my current heads. But I do have a couple of xj8s available. Will the 2000 or 2001 xj8 heads fit and work with my xjr?

Yes, NA heads will be fine on an SC (xjr) engine provided you plug the VVT oil holes. This is like the work shown in TSB 303-31 but you will do the opposite - install a rivet in each head.

For this, you will need to get special plug-rivets, 8 mm. I also had to by a bigger rivet gun as a standard one could not be used. The pull-rod of these rivets has 3.5 mm diameter.

In the diagram you shared it states in the bottom that it only works for 97-98. That it wont work for 99 is that right?

in 99 they had two engine types running at the same time, 3.2 AJ27 4.0 AJ27 and 4.0 AJ26S

in 2000 they were all using the AJ27 so you’ll be good to go
