The full badge does just “clip in” to the rectangular hole in the middle of the depression in the fender, at least the one I replaced did. My guess however, is that if just the face has fallen off that the body of the old badge might have to be removed “from the back” which probably requires removing the wheel wheel liner to get at it (or just leave it in place and try and find a replacement face for it).
If you wanted to eliminate the badge all together you could get some European Spec side repeaters and fit them. I think the wiring is already there behind the badge on US cars if I recall.

actually, it is assumed (it's the law; slower vehicles stay in the left lane or get ticketed). But my first X308 was built for the Canadian market and markers worked on both sides. Neither of the last two had lights.
Pretty sure it's fixed with something like strong double-sided sticky tape. If the a.m. dental floss is not strong enough, it depends, how confident you are in the art of using a little cutter knife. That's what I used.
Alternatively: I actually could not find the correct badge for my X308 (where also only the inner fell out) and I created my own (copying a picture from the internet, printing it and sealing it with laminate) and I put that into the remaining frame. This looks pretty original.
gently use plastic trim tools to remove the old one. I think you push down, but you can confirm that from looking at the new one. The new one snaps in.
