Default I have no idea what happend... HELP!

Hey guys n gals story time loll

okay so i decided to take my 2001 Jaguar XJR out today since the weather was nice (about 75-80). i drove her around town and she drove just fine.

i was at a red light in front next to a accord so i thought lets give her a go. light turned green and she took off like a rocket...this will come back and bit me loll

about 5 mins later i noticed that the dash mileage was very dim. no errors at the time.

closer to home i notice that she was running hotter (220) i instantly turned on the heater to full blast hot air. cooled her down some.

got to my street and tried turning and the power steering was jerking as if it was having a seizure while i held the steering wheel while in a turn.

got to my drive way. popped open the hood and noticed a different sound coming from the front end..(something connected to the belt, alternator, power steering or water pump)

let it cool down for a bit and started her up...she started up as usual but light in the dash said battery not charging. so i instantly thought shoot alternator died.

took a look at the engine bay again and this time engine is cranking over BUT none of the belts are spinning! not the crank pulley, water, alternator, supercharger. but engine is running????? i have no idea what happen or where to start this time.

Facts:

car is running hotter 220F ish, cranks over just fine... engine starts up.... but belts are not spinning at all.

i guess if it was a reliability race...the Honda won!....this time! i shall rebuild again!

ill attach pictures and a video as soon as i can.

Very simple - your crank pulley got loose. Not as a result of racing the Honda but because it was probably not tightened properly last time and/or new cone and bolt were not used. Hopefully, there is no damage to the crankshaft extension for the pulley and the pulley hole as you do not seem to have driven it much in this condition.

Get a new cone and centre bolt and, if no damages I mentioned, just tighten the centre bolt to 380 NM, for which you must have the special pulley holder (and a very large torque wrench).

An error in the document that could potentially be fatal - it should be 268 - 285 lb.ft.

Pray you haven't damaged the crank nose. You will need a new crank bolt and cone, as the cone will have 'blued steel' and lost it's properties.

Thank you for the quick responses guys! (This is a great forum, great group of people and much help; i am on a Mercedes forum as well and no one bothers helping out or responding).

Okay tomorrow is my day off my action plan is to remove the belt and turn each pulley to check if any of them are seized up. i will update you guys on the findings...

could you guys post a link from where i can buy the bolt and cone. also the belt did not snap or fray at any point...

also what happens if the crank shaft extender is broken? new motor then?

the car starts right up even on a cold start and i it is not idling poorly or misfiring (im assuming since its idling fine; the timing chains are turning and from that point forward i do not know)

could it be possible that i stripped the cone and the screw is rotating??? i have a scope camera i will check and update as well.

Do not run the engine to prevent further damage. A good used crank pulley is hard to find and a new one will cost you about 2k.

As for parts (if the pulley hole and the crank nose are still good), you will also need the pulley o-ring, part no. XR81139.

Thank you Lady Penelope! i over looked the parts link haha
M. stojanovic! yes sir! dont want to cause further damage only cranked it for about 5 seconds for the video and that was a cold start! she fires right up
next time she fires up it will be when its been repaired! i have to push her out of the garage in neutral to make more room..parked to close to the wall on one side loll cant use that side haha

My findings so far....i still have to remove the belt to check each pulley. so far on the main crank pulley the screw is spinning...does mine have a cone as well? or just the screw? this is my vin #SAJDA15B61MF32236

ive uploaded a video on youtube...

Motorcarman may have a shortcut without using the special Jaguar tool , but the final torque is critical .
