Default I know this has been discused a 1000× 5hp24

2001 vanden plas 4.0l na 5hp24 trans..
after a whole long BS story of trying to get the upper valvebody repaired or replaced at shop. I got the car back and had a friend help me do it . Replaced the upper valvebody, the part that cracks. Also filter, gasket the pressure valve was already replaced.

So my question is how is it possible I've been able to get just about 10+ qts into the transmission? Last week after putting it back together I added 6+ qts everything was cold engine off.
today I warmed the engine had a buzzing sound coming from the transmission added 2 more qts and the buzzing stopped Once the engine/ transmission got up to temperature I was able to add almost 3 more qts.

what am I missing here ???
I didn't think dropping the trans pan would leak that much fluid.

thanks

If I remember right, a complete change of fluid is about 12 quarts.
It really depends on how far you want to go to have clean fluid.

Hi randy

The 1st time I drained the fluid, when I got the car I got around 6 qts out removed valvebody replaced pressure valve, filter.
once back together with engine warmed up in got just over 7 qts back in...
My concern was this time after doing the same thing this time. How did I loss so much fluid?. Over 2 + gallons went back in...

I was told the trans and convertor hold 21.1 qts.
So after getting it back up on jack stands, car nice and level , going through shifting from park, reverse, neutral, drive over and over and checking the fill plug I'm confident it's full.
Had a nice small stream of fluid flowing out each time.
Done. Test drive felt good , 40 mins on back roads ,no inspection sticker yet. It failed because of this.

that hairline crack in the passenger mirror.
oh well...

Hi HH.
I already contacted him about the steering column yesterday and today. The mirror I got a replacement mirror. So I'm good i think... just glue and go...

To Anyone following this is just want to point out This Good Man HIGHHORSE, usually has the answers or information or where to find it...
And if your want him to come to your home and help sort out your Jaguar all you need is a gallon of good Mint Sauce and one of these little monsters! Don't worry he'll process it himself!

Thanks again Highhorse
